School Development

Our school is constantly undergoing a process of further developing the educational standards for the benefit of our students. This process was set in motion by our school's Mission and Vision Statement, which was jointly worked on by all the school's committees in 2005.

This Mission and Vision Statement forms the basis of our educational concept, and at the same time, contains a visionary outlook on our school's future development. Based on goals of this statement, we have summarized the aspects of school life that correspond to these goals in our School Programme. This Programme is a work in progress, and is continuously being updated and expanded.

At the beginning of the academic year 2010 / 2011, from the 8th to the 12th of November 2010, a special commission from Germany carried out an inspection (Bund-Länder-Inspektion - BLI) at the school. Our systematic work in the area of school development over the last few years was reflected in the results we achieved: The German School Nairobi now bears the seal of an "Excellent School Abroad", which was awarded to us by the KMK (The Standing Conference of the Ministers of Education and Cultural Affairs of the Länder in the Federal Republic of Germany) and the Central Agency for Schools Abroad (ZfA).

We now have the task of putting the results of the inspection into action and work further on quality development. We have identified areas with development potential. This will hopefully lead to new concepts for further development. All committees of the school will be included in this process.

We will continue to systematically evaluate the students' feedback questionnaires and to further develop the  "Support and Challenge Concept" (Fördern und Fordern). With this concept, we intend to make our target of "individual promotion of students" (as set out in the Mission Statement) even more structured, for the benefit of every student in the school.

The Mission and Vision Statement itself has been edited and updated by an Experts Committee. In addition, Independent Study (EVA) and Lion's Quest Programmes have been implemented. Evaluation of quality of lessons will be carried out regularly through the students' feedback questionnaires. The quality of lessons, as usual, remains the focal point of quality development. 

In the academic year 2011/2012 a master plan for the next five years was jointly developed by all the school's committees to guarantee the continuous work on the results of the BLI. This plan has to be realized step by step also during this academic year.
