Abitur graduates receive their certificates at a festive ceremony

Date 30/05/2012

The Abitur students of this year's Class 12, Ann-Kathrin Blinninger, KandireGonda, Marie-Claire Kabengele, Daniel Koch and Till Vogel received their certificates at a festive ceremony on Friday the 25th of May 2012. The parents of the graduates, the German Ambassador Ms Hellwig-Bötte, the external Examination Officer Mr Sperlich, the Headmaster Mr Baur, the Deputy Headmaster Mr Mink, the Class Teacher Ms Blumenstein, Ms Mielke as a Board Representative, all the teachers of Class 12, and students of Classes 10 and 11 were all present to bid farewell to the graduates in the Gymnastics Room of the German School Nairobi. Students of Class 10 had festively decorated the room.

The ceremony began with the German National Anthem, followed by the National Anthems of Kenya, the USA and the Democratic Republic of Congo. After that, Mr Baur invited the Ms Hellwig-Bötte, Mr Sperlich. Ms Mielke and Ms Blumenstein to say a few words to the graduates. The school lives of the graduates were briefly reviewed in these speeches, and everyone wished the students all the best in their future endeavours. The graduates had the final word, and they entertained the audience with some very amusing anecdotes. The highlight of the ceremony was, though, the handing out of the certificates by the Ambassador and the Examinations Officer to the five graduates.

Marie-Claire Kabengele and Daniel Koch each received a book prize for their excellent Abitur results, while Till Vogel won the book prize donated by the German Chemical Industries Association.

A short reception followed, held in the Art Room, to "clink glasses" with the five successful students. The reception had been organised by students of Class 10, whereas the Leavers' Ball, put together by students of Class 11, took place later that evening at the UN.
