School Internship

The German School Nairobi offers school internships in the primary school as well as in the secondary levels I and II.
For 2014 all internship places for the primary school and the secondary levels I and II have already been filled. If you are interested in having an internship in the year 2015, we would like to invite you to apply with a written application in spring 2014.

How do I apply?

Your application can be sent to the following e-mail address: martina.pichler@germanschool.co.ke

The enquiry assistant for the supervision of a school internship is Mrs Martina Pichler. Your application should consist of a CV and a formal letter which should clearly display the following criteria:
• Age
• University,
• Degree (Type of school)
• Subject
• Semester
• Previous internships
• Study priorities

Which requirements do I have to fill?

All students who plan to work in a primary school or in a secondary level I or II can apply. They should, where possible, possess the mid-term exam. An application before the 3. semester is not recommended. Application of students of the ‘Sonderschule’ pedagogy (those with learning difficulties) with the priorities „emotional and social development“, „Learning“ and „Language“, who are interested in an internship in the primary school, are also taken into consideration. When applying please remember the subjects taught in our school (German, Mathematics, English, French, History, Geography, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Sport, Art, Religion, Arbeitslehre, Social sciences). A connection with Africa/Kenya is an advantage.

When can I do my internship?

It is not possible in the first and last weeks of a school year to do a school internship. Please note our holiday dates. The following times are recommended in particular:

• Middle of September to the middle of December
• February / March; May to the middle of June

How long should my internship last?

We recommend longer internships for at least two months.

What do I also need to be aware of?

A school internship is unpaid. Unfortunately, no costs can be taken over by the school. You should take care of all travel preparations on time (valid passport and visa; overseas accident-, health- and liability insurance). Inform yourself in plenty of time about health concerns and vaccinations at a health clinic or at an institute of tropical diseases. The school recommends the accommodation in the schools’ own boarding house.
